pogonotrophy (po-guh-NAW-truh-fee) noun
The growing of a beard.
[From Greek pogon (beard) + -trophy (nourishment, growth).]
Pogonology is the study of beards and pogonotomy is a fancy word for shaving. |

Not to hijack this thread, but as long as we're discussing interesting words, my favorite obscure word is:
ucalegon: a neighbor whose house is on fire

I saw this in my daily A-Word-A-Day email, and admitted first to chuckling, then figuring out ways to use it. I have shocked at least three people at the office (being devoutly religious, they play a bit of word completion in their heads and come up with an other less appropriate word and are all aghast at my use of language). Don't you just love it!

Hmm... Well, I don't know that I'd consider pornography a hobby - more just a pleasant pastime.

| Another word to remember is "tonsorial" -- of or pertaining to a barber or barbering (Lat. tonsor = barber). One of my razors is actually called Tonsorial Gem.

Anyone here practised pogonotomy in Potawatomi? With a lobotomy?_________________ Give us the luxuries, and we will forego the necessities.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.
