Bedros, the handle is hollow. If you hold it up to a light, you can see through it: the base piece of plastic is twice as thick as the walls of the handle, and the knot seems to be set about 1/4" deep in the handle, but otherwise, it's translucent. I think more weight would make it feel better in the hand. It's terrific heightwise: same size handle as a Duke 3, more or less. If it had a touch more heft, it wouldn't necessarily perform better, but it would feel just right to hold.
Regards,

Tim, I spent like 20 minutes trying to shine light through mine with no success! My wife looked at me like I've completely lost it
It is not a solid handle and it does not have the weight of a lathe turned handle, not even close, but I sort of like the feel of it, and the shape is 100% useful.
I think that it's more solid than the 48 handle, but that might be in my head too;
I do prefer the solid color and I don't like the chrome or gold of the 48s, but remember, it's Italian!
(I say that with love; my wife is Italian, and some things Italian have a certain flair for the gaudy, IMHO)
It's interesting that you compare it to the Duke, Tim.
I know you love that brush, much more than do I; one of the reasons why I don't like the Duke is the handle; it does not work for my hand;
I find it too small to grab below the ridge, and odd to hold above the ridge; I much prefer the Omega handle, bristle or hair aside; go figure!
I took this pic for you:

Zach, I definitely didn't get light to shine through it from a standard bulb; I used the lights above our vanity. My wife wasn't home. You're right that the handle feels as solid as the 49 (maybe not more, though).
Interesting point about the Duke. Thinking about when I hold it, I place my thumb and two fingers above the ridge and the other two fingers (ring and pinky) below the ridge, butting the base up against the palm of my hand. It just feels right. I've ordered a Rooney 1,2 Super on the premise that it will be similar in feel, in fact. It is definitely the smallest handle in my collection (the BK4 and Commodore X2 are similar sizes), but something about it just looks right with that scrubby loft.
You're right about the usefulness of the 10066 handle, though. It has a very ergonomic shape. I've considered having a wooden handle made with that shape into which I might place the knot from this brush. Just a magnificent tool as is, but of course I always wonder, what would make this even better?
Regards,

| Tim, agreed, a better handle is what these brushes lack, and was my motivation for March; what's great about Vulfix and Omega is that they're really open to new things!

Wait..Did you...You didn't...
NEW OMEGA BRUSHES????????
Holy crap, you really are a true epic hero!!!
If you've got a direct line to new Omega brushes, can you get them to make a bigger version of the 21047? Cause it's ONLY flaw is the size...that knot is magical._________________ Boar strokes on the face

No, Jim, I'm just a man...
And I can't take credit, I'm working with a small army here; I'm a cog in the boar machine, that's all... |

Or, perhaps, the Boar Napoleon standing before Moscow?

My mistake Bedros; I did not notice that you asked about the hollow or not for both the 49 as well as the 10066 and was speaking only about the 49; I gave my 10066 away a couple of months ago, otherwise I would take a flashlight to it (after the wife fell asleep )
Apologies, gentlemen! |
Ah, this explains the picture of the 49 and the Duke. Yes, I was talking about the 10066's handle being translucent and Duke-size.
Well, uh, yeah, the 49 is not at all like the Duke. It's a great brush, though...

Mike, it will fade; if you soak and spin it, then it will fade quicker; that's a nice looking brush; I assume the base of the handle, the clear part, is hollow, yes? Most boar will lost a few brushes for the first week and then settle down; then occasionally if you don't use them and they get dry, they might break the occasional hair, they are not as flexible as badger.
Use it in good health!

| Zach...the hande is handsome, but the knot is slender and firm. I have to say that my cheap drugstore VHD boar has almost as good a bristle... but once I break this one in I might change my mind!
